(County Cup) - Sunday 11th April 2010

Aylesbury achieved unprecedented success on Sunday as four Aylesbury teams travelled to High Wycombe to compete in the Bucks Yazoo Mini Tournament (County Cup) for the opportunity to represent Bucks at the Southern Regional Finals at Under 10 and Under 12s age groups.

Aylesbury's second game was against Wycombe, Aylesbury showed that they had the appetite for the win, and sailed through to a 5-0 win, spreading the ball wide utilising the whole of the pitch effectively.

The third and final game was against Amersham & Chalfont, the Cup tangible and within Aylesbury's grasp, there was no stopping them. Jess Potts Aylesbury's GK was required to make a couple of confident saves, while the attack and midfield passed intelligently amongst themselves to secure a 6-0 win and so becoming unanimous winners of the tournament and ultimately claiming the cup and title of Bucks Mini Hockey Under 10's Girls Champions 2009/10.

Under 10 Boys

The Under 10 Boys came up against a very strong Tring team in their first match. Despite numerous chances to score, Aylesbury just couldn't find the back of the net. Typically, with 5 minutes to go, Tring broke away and scored the only goal of the game against the run of play.

With Aylesbury desperate for a result, they came up against Marlow in their second match. Aylesbury kept the ball wide and passed the ball between all there players with pace and confidence. Two fine goals from Cameron Beazley-Clarke secured the win and put Aylesbury back in with a chance of qualifying.

Their third game against High Wycombe, it was an end to end game and Wycombe took the lead from a very fluent move. Aylesbury regrouped and started to pass the ball around and pull Wycombe wide. But again, it looked like they would not break the Wycombe defence. Aylesbury keeper Ben Elliott made 2 game saving saves. This spurred on Aylesbury and they broke down the wing and played the ball into the D with pace for Ollie Hassall to put it pass Wycombe's keeper for a 1-1 draw.

Then game the final game against Milton Keynes, Aylesbury needed to win this game by 2 goals. Aylesbury pushed hard from the off and went 1-0 up early on. And despite some fantastic defending by Milton Keynes, Aylesbury got the 2nd goal from Daniel Bedwell with seconds to spare.

Aylesbury qualify for the Regional Finals as Runner Up.

Under 12 Girls

The girls opening game was against Wycombe, and Aylesbury qualifying performance obviously fired up their opponents who put Aylesbury under some severe pressure in the early stages and only a couple of fines saves by India Hibbs kept Aylesbury in the game. Slowly the Aylesbury team settled into their stride and a great game unfolded with both teams attacking at every opportunity, the game was finally settled in Aylesbury's favour by a fine strike from Laura Hope resulting in a 1-0 win.

The remaining game saw Aylesbury take on Buckingham knowing that a victory would see them crowned champions and this obviously spurred the girls on to produce one of their best displays. Following a tight opening to the game a quick burst by Robyn Cumberland set up Phoebe Teychenne to score with a fine low sweep. Aylesbury then grew in confidence and quickly saw their lead doubled by another fine strike by Laura Hope. The icing on the cake was provided by Aylesbury captain Charlotte Oswald who scored a third and confirming Aylesbury's place as County Champions.

Under 12 Boys

The Under 12 Boys completed the set and ensured that Aylesbury qualified for the Regional Finals at all age groups, all be it after a shacky start.

Aylesbury faced an extremely strong and well organised Marlow team in their opening game. Aylesbury didn't start the game particularly well and were comprehensively beaten 3-0.

However, the boys quickly put the opening match behind them and sort about despatching their next opponents Wycombe.

Despite a positive start by Aylesbury, Wycombe took an early lead through a well worked move down the right side of the pitch. Aylesbury re-grouped and soon made it 1-1 going into the final few minutes of the match. With the momentum behind Aylesbury, there was only going to be one winner. And with the final touch of the match Aylesbury made it 2-1.
