Aylesbury v Gerrards Cross

Sunday 18 October 2009

A number of Aylesbury Hockey Club's junior teams travelled to Gerrards Cross on Sunday to take part in a number of round-robin friendly fixtures.

Under 12s

The Under 12s performed beyond their expectations with a real gutsy display against an older and more experienced Gerrards Cross Under 12s side. Aylesbury were short on numbers due to other tournament commitments; fielding two under 10 girls and two debutants new to the club this season. Aylesbury still had some experience in the side that was able to bind the team together and almost pull off a fantastic win. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be and Aylesbury just fell short of the posts losing 5-3. However, looking forward there is plenty of potential for the coming season.

U12 Team: Greg Beasley, Lewis Ewers, Sam Hobbs, Eleanor Kiely, Daniel Lindars, George Townsend, Justin Uijldert, and Phoebe Teychenne.

Under 10s

The first away game of the season this Sunday saw for the Under 10s awash with players splitting into two teams while Ellie Kiely & Phoebe Teychenne played up with the under 12s to make up their shortfall of numbers.
Gerrards Cross dominated the first half with Zakir Ullah and Lucy Cooling battling hard. Gerrards Cross took the lead but Aylesbury kept their heads up and were unlucky not to equalize with a shot by Jack Pearce. The game ended 1-0 thanks to the confident play by Jess Potts who made her 2nd debut as goalkeeper and worked hard to keep the oppositions score low.
The second team started with good pressure, with Alex Elliott, Alice Rolfe and Emily Taylor working well together. Aylesbury were unlucky to concede a goal but then a great pass from Alice Rolfe to Alex Elliot found the net for the equalizer. Gerrards Cross responded pulling one back and followed up with yet another quick goal. Aylesbury weren't finished though and they produced some quality passing again, Alice Rolfe and Emily Taylor working together to get the ball to Alex Elliot to score. The game ended 3–2 to Gerrards Cross. An enjoyable morning with lots of good hockey.

U10 team: Mollie Baars, Amelia Beel, Vanessa Bond, Lucy Cooling, Mia Davison, Alex & Ben Elliott, Mercedes Pascal, Jack Pearce, Jess Potts, Alice Rolfe, Sophie Smith, Emily Taylor, Zakir Ullah.

Under 8s

The Under 8s arrived en masse at Beaconsfield High School with 17 players in total. Nevertheless, everybody got an opportunity to pit their wits against Gerrards Cross, and nobody disappointed. There were some real notable performances from Ben Lindars and Sam Welsh who terrorised Gerrards Cross at every opportunity. There were also some great performances from some under 7s that were invited down for their first ever matches. A really big well done to Joshua Gallagher, Simon Beasley, Ben Baars, Tom Powell-Williams, Callum Davis and Harrison Heale.

The under 8s won most of the mini matches that they took part in. But most importantly they played some wonderful hockey and in the right spirit.

Team: Eliza Riggs, Tom Powell-William, Ben Powell-Williams, Jorrell Pascal, Ben Northcott, Simon Beasley, Owen Heale, Ethan Johnson, Oliver Hassal, Jeremy Kiely, Jai Fitzwalter, Sam Welsh, Ben Baars, Ben Lindars, Callum Davis, Joshua Gallagher and Harrison Heale.

Aylesbury Hockey Club has a thriving junior section and always welcomes new players of all abilities. Anyone interested can join in at training sessions at Meadowcroft on Sundays 9.30am onwards as well as Wednesdays from 5pm through to 7pm. Times vary depending on age groups.
