Ladies 1st XI
Aylesbury 1st XI: 6 - Windsor 1st XI: 1
Aylesbury Ladies 1st XI are three points clear of their promotion rivals Wokingham after a resounding 6-1 win over Windsor Ladies 1st XI.
The 1st XI now face fourth-placed South Bucks after the Easter Break and then will have to wait until the very last game of the season, against Wokingham, to see if they can gain promotion, second year running, to Premier 1 of the Trysports League. Aylesbury Ladies 1st XI will mirror the 2nd XI who were promoted last weekend.
Ladies 3rd XI
Aylesbury 3rd XI: 5 - Phoenix & Ranelagh: 0
Aylesbury Ladies 3rd XI got a fantastic result against the team sat just above them in the league. Phoenix and Ranelagh are always a tough team to play against but this weekend, Aylesbury totally outclassed them. With a wonderful team performance, Aylesbury were solid at the back with stirling play from Kirsty Dean and Ann Jones. Great passing through the midfield and down the centre and right continued to trouble Phoenix. Aylesbury's first goal came from a stunning strike at the top of the D from Becky Kiely; followed quickly by a second when Meghan Howitt latched onto a cross by captain, Kelly Marsh, to sweep the ball past the keeper. The second half was all about Naomi Smith, who playing in the centre forward position, twisted and turned past the Phoenix defence to get an amazing hatrick. Howitt and Smith were served well up front by wonderful play in midfield and were unlucky not to add to their tally. Phoenix had their attacks but just could not break through the defence. All could have been voted Player of the Match, such was the effort put in by every player but Kirsty Dean deservedly got it.
Aylesbury have had a mixed season, mainly due to not being able to play a consistent squad. When in form, they have been unbeatable, like today but just have not capitalized on games where they should have walked away with 3 points. Aylesbury are just holding onto their fourth position but with teams below them who still have games in hand, they could see themselves fall to mid-table. After today's performance, Aylesbury deserve to be finishing higher and so will be looking to get a final 3 points from their last game of the season after the Easter Break.
