Men's 1st XI
Aylesbury Mens 1st XI: 3 - Bracknell: 0
Aylesbury Men's 1st XI team returned home to their beloved Halton pitch after having their good progress blown off course the previous week in the wind and rain of Bracknell. With a refreshed line-up, Aylesbury looked bright from the very start with Greenlee and Ferguson adding vim and vigour in midfield, which seemed to scare Rover Oxford's 2nd XI into inaction. Supported by veteran Usherwood shoring up the midfield alongside skipper Gregory, the first quarter passed with Aylesbury having almost all the possession.
Normally in this situation a strange panic seems to set in as Aylesbury struggle to break the opposition down after a good start, and give the opposition chance to respond and get back in the game. This week though, the back four of Quinn, Pridgeon, Austin and the man of the match, Penson, shored up the performance with some rock-solid defending to show why this is the meanest team in the league in defence and some skilful attacking. Keeper Skinner had little to do in goal.
The game came to life with birthday boy Greenlee scored Aylesbury's first goal, followed by a second after Penson split the Rover defence with a fine run. Victory was secured by a third from the in-form Ferguson. The Aylesbury front-line of Higgerton and Patterson, supported by Spencer kept Rover worried, but despite some late pressure by the opposition, Aylesbury held on for another clean sheet. Aylesbury now move away from the bottom of the table into 9th position. If they can continue good performances like this, then their future in this new league looks good.
Men's 2nd XI
Aylesbury Mens 2nd XI: 2 - Sonning: 0
The Men's 2nd XI recorded their seventh consecutive win to remain joint top of the table with a 2-0 away win over Sonning. In a controlled and confident performance Aylesbury, with centre back Mark Bowes pulling the strings, moved the ball all over the pitch to stretch Sonning and were rewarded with a goal in each half from centre forward Ed Gurney. Aylesbury's only concern came when one of Sonning's umpires thought it would be a good idea to send off Aylesbury's youngest player for 10 minutes for an innocuous tackle, but even then Sonning rarely threatened.
Men's 3rd XI
Aylesbury Mens 3rd XI: 2 - Slough: 2
The 3rd XI had a hard fought 2-2 draw with Slough at home.
Men's 4th XI
Aylesbury Mens 4th XI: 3 - OMT: 1
The 4th XI with only 10 men, following 2 late withdrawals due to sickness, turned in a magnificent away performance, to beat OMT 3rds 3-1 with goals from Jack Rolfe and the Wilson "twins" - Ant and Waddy - Aylesbury's equivalent of Jedward, but more in tune!
Men's 5th XI
Aylesbury Mens 5th XI:
The Men's 5th XI meanwhile faced a strong blend of experience and youth from Milton Keynes and put up a defiant defensive performance, until the older Aylesbury legs in midfield gave out, eventually going down 4-0.
