Men's 3rd XI
Aylesbury Mens 3rd XI: 2 - Wycombe Men's 4ths: 2
This Saturday saw a game where Aylesbury Men's 3rd XI were keen to revenge the 9-1 drubbing earlier this season against promotion chasing Wycombe. A very changed side was fielded seeing the experienced defenders of Stuart Mosely, John smith and Giles Hurd returning. Marshalled by the youthful Dave Bryant and Matt Kiely as goalie and sweeper ensured the defense stood solid. Wave and wave of attacks bombarded the Aylesbury defense as Wycombe set off to beat their nine goals tally last time.
A packed five man midfield created difficulties for Wycombe who eventually went one nil up from a short corner. Aylesbury however drew level with a fine solo goal from Jake Hodges. Bob Gregory confused the Wycombe midfield as usual with his unique style of play as a left hander. Supported by Kevin Bond, Peter Wright, Dan Best and Gary Abel in midfield, ensured that this continual attacking Wycombe side that have scored 56 goals in twelve games were subdued.
In the second half Aylesbury took the lead again following fine work from Hodgins latching onto a quick ball released by Phil Collins. Aylesbury kept soaking up the Wycombe attack and hit them on the counter attack. A penalty flick appeal in Aylesbury's favour was denied. This unsettled the Aylesbury side to let Wycombe draw level on their own counter attack. Fine work by Dave Bryant in the Aylesbury goal kept Wycombe from taking the lead as they laid siege to the Aylesbury D. the final whistle was welcomed by Wycombe as the strength of Aylesbury's midfield rallied. A fine performance by Aylesbury kept the Aylesbury's supporters warm on a very cold January day.
