Mens 1s battle to a 2-2 draw at BA

Aylesbury travelled to London to play British Airways in week 9 of the MBBO Regional 2 season. Aylesbury came into the game top of the table whereas BA were down in 6th.
A touching moment pre match when both sides observed a minute silence for JP Stevens who sadly passed away last time these two team met five years ago that weekend. British Airway presented Aylesbury with a framed BA shirt with JP’s name printed on the front.
The game began with British Airways on the front foot putting Aylesbury under a lot of early pressure. Their pressure earned them an early goal. A short corner was coolly slotted away by the BA forward. Aylesbury Struggled to get into the game but a breakaway attack earned them a short corner of their own. Up stepped corner specialist Marc Hignell who low flick was deflected passed the keeper by Dan Lindars.
Aylesbury were hoping that this would kick them into gear however this was not to be the case. Aylesbury remained on the back foot but the defence was soaking up the pressure well. However it was BA who regained the lead before half time. Some neat skill on top of the D, the BA forward then flicked the ball towards the goal only to take an thick edge off Chris Hunters stick leaving Stephen Best in goal wrong footed putting Aylesbury behind for a second time in the game.
Stern words from Coach Jaypee Wentzel at half time still wasn’t enough to wake Aylesbury up at the start of the second half. BA remained on the front foot and created a few chanced to improve on their lead. Again Aylesbury’s back line stood firm and soaked up pressure. BA’s best chance came from a quickly taken free hit which the first shot was saves and Stephen Best then ran down the forward to the edge of the D and took the ball before flattening the forward. More bad news for Aylesbury when a great tackle from Ben Ireson saw the forwards stick smash into Ireson’s hand ending his game early and will be out of action until the new year.
Aylesbury new time was running out in this game and faced their first defeat of the season. They were starting to see much more of the ball as BA began to tire but still were not able to test the keeper. Aylesbury’s pressure finally won them a short corner five minutes from time. Marc Hignell was on top D once again and again aimed the low flick toward the bottom right corner and Dan Lindars got a touch passed the keeper to score his second of the game and fourth of the season.
The game ended with the points shared. Next week Aylesbury welcome Bracknell to RAF Halton for the penultimate game before Christmas.
