Aylesbury 2 vs Wooton

Aylesbury travelled to newly promoted table toppers Wooton knowing they were going to be in for a tough match against free scoring confident opposition. From the off it was clear that Wooton were keen to play at pace, pressing the Aylesbury back four whenever they had the ball. Missing the aerial prowess of Matt Kiely, Aylesbury struggled to get the ball out of their own half, soaking up constant Wooton pressure. It was only a matter of time before Wooton scored rifling home from close range, and their lead was quickly doubled when Ben Husbands managed to apply a deflected finish for a calamitous own goal. Further Wooton pressure resulted in Aylesbury trailing 3-0 at the break. At half time How expressed his disappointment and asked the team to raise their game, which was reinforced particularly strongly by other members of the team. The half term vitriol spurned Aylesbury into action and they began to frustrate the hosts who couldn’t build on their lead thanks to some resolute defence and goal keeping. Finally Aylesbury’s efforts paid off with Si Mould converting a goal line scramble after a well worked short corner routine. Despite hope that the comeback was on, Wooton were just too strong and continued to press the Aylesbury goal, adding a further short corner to finish the match 4-1 winners.
