Aylesbury 2 vs Gerrards Cross (2-3)

Aylesbury travelled to second place Gerrards Cross hoping to finished the first half of the season on a high, and ensure they remained in promotion contention following the Christmas Break. Both teams started the game with determined aggression seeking to dominate their opponents. In an attempt to overcome Gerrards Cross high press Kiely deployed his aerial skills with aplomb, exposing the oppositions weakness in dealing with high balls. Sadly Kiely decided to mix up his approach and instead decided to pass the ball straight to the opposition’s centre forward, resulting in an unexpected gifted lead for Gerrards Cross. Returning to his more successful tactic, Kiely redeemed himself turning provider for Matt Hinge who clinically moved Aylesbury in to a 2-1 lead, showing incredible composure in front of goal. Leading 2-1 at the break, Aylesbury were determined to maintain their lead. However, as in previous weeks, Aylesbury were unable to capitalise on their lead, and despite resolute defending Gerrards Cross managed to scramble an equaliser, reacting quickest to a rebounded ball. With their spirit buoyed Gerrards Cross pushed for the winner, finally scoring with 5 minutes left to go through a drilled reverse stick strike. As Aylesbury sought to salvage a point, composure was lost, with only 9 Aylesbury players left on the pitch at the end. Hopefully Aylesbury can regroup over the break, and with better availability across the club, can reignite their promotion bid after Christmas.
