Aylesbury men’s 2s met local rivals Tring 1st XI

Aylesbury men’s 2s met local rivals Tring 1st XI in the first league game of the season fielding a more youthful side than in recent weeks with youngsters Jeremy Kiely, Ben Lindars, Owen Heale, Thomas Richards, Will Davison and a rejuvenated Doug Kershaw providing energy and speed on the beach that was the Tring pitch. However it was veterans Dave How and Daniel John Inkley who provided the goals in the 1st half to counter Tring’s two short corner strikes past Ady Portlock. How’s first was a clever flick following a great run from Heale and Inkley tapped in to an open net to make it 2-2. It could have been 3-2 at half time but skipper Mark Bowes missed an open goal described by Matt Kiely as “the worst miss I’ve ever seen” and “even worse than Lygo-Baker in 1997 to cost us the league”.
In the second half Ays took control though Portlock was forced into a few decent saves and Kershaw critically and bravely saved on the line. It was again How and Inkley who scored following a slick short corner routine and a rapid break with the latter converting a precision Will Davison cross. Heale completed a great performance with a goal capitalising on a Kiely short corner saves shot to finish where his captan couldn’t in the first half. Kershaw went close later on without luck following a lung busting run however the final score remained 5-2.
DoD: Mark Bowes
MoM: One of Davison, Kershaw, Heale or Kiely Junior (not sure of the decisions)
