What a epic game Kites had today at AVA againist OMT.
Has to be our finest hour this season ?.
This week we had a surplus consisting of 14 players. Top marks to Jamie Jennings, Phill Horrocks and Joe Price for putting in such hard work.
I m not one for blowing my own trumpet but when credit is due its due. 2nd week taking up the captaincy. I went for a diamond formation and my tactical choice throughout the game set the tone for our agressive play. Made a difference.
The battle plan was simple. Keep it simple, simple passes, nothing too ambitious, attack down the right with width. Simple.
We executed our battle plan right down to the key ?. Every player put in a hungry, eager performance.
1st half we took the lead from a finely taken short corner scored by a Tring player. Whole match was end to end stuff.
Our back 3 consisting of Mark Blake ( centre) Jamie jennings ( left) and phill horrocks ( right) were like a dream trio defending with passion like the New Zealand rugby team. Mind you they are 6ft tall ?.
Myself at the bottom of the diamond. Throughly enjoyed the position. Canceling out the oppo attacks and getting the ball linked up to the other mids.
Credit is due for Ben Northcott for having a go at the top of the diamond. Thought I d try him there and he was like a terrier. You d see him back with the defence knicking the ball, then he was back up with the forwards supporting them.
As the 1st half progressed OMT managed to pull a goal back, that we thought was a back of the stick touch. But we respected the umpires decision.
We went into the 1st half 1- 1. Fair half time scoreline. Althou OMT just had the edge over us. With their closing down play and hunger for the ball. So half time talk was keep it calm, simple play and we were just those couple of seconds too long with ball, we had to rectify the really fine detail. It was that close.
Credit is also due for Paul Owen, James Northcott, Joe Price and Simon Beasley for their linking up play and fight back on every ball. Also for their adaptabilty when I ocassionally shifted them around ( positions) to keep up our fluency and composure during our play.
Well into the 2nd half we took the lead 2-1 from a calm, well taken goal from the top of the D. Same Tring player again.
I confess I did come off the ground 2ft with joy as it was looking to be my debut win as captain ?.
But then OMT unfortunately got a late equalizer from a short corner to hit it throw the narrowest of gaps.
Ok a 2 - 2 draw was fair, really fair result. 4.5mins left to go. ( longest 4.5mins of my life ?). OMT then went and picked up a penalty. Talk about nail biting.
But rest assure our Tring goalie was calm and ready. Who read exactly where the ball was going for it to hit the post.
Final result 2- 2.
Really was a team effort by all. Everyone fought hard and played their role in the team very well. ?? Well done!!
