Ladies 1XI v Oxford Hawks

Ladies 1s travelled to Oxford for the second week running, to play against Oxford Hawks 4s. We started with some great intensity with Voirrey Holmes nearly putting us a goal up within the first 1 min despite it being their pushback, but it was saved by the oppo’s strong defence. The deadlock between the teams was broken when Tilly Roy scored a fantastic reverse sweep at the top of the D. Our lead didn’t last long when Oxford managed to win a short corner and converted a well executed routine within minutes later.

In the second half, Aylesbury battled hard and was rewarded with a goal from a rebound, giving Tilly her second goal in the match. Oxford fought back and unfortunately for us, we conceded a soft second goal. However, this did not deter our determination, and from a piece of brilliant play by Kiera Foster, where she ran with the ball from our 25 yard line, she penetrated the oppo’s D and scored from an incredibly tight angle. 3-2 up and with only mins to play, we tried to hold on to our lead but it wasn’t meant to be and from a momentary lapse of concentration, Oxford scored their equaliser. Despite the result, it didn’t truly reflect the game, having won countless short corners and not managing to convert a single one, we are confident to get the result when we host them at home. Special mention to captain Hannah Pigott who heroically saved two goals on the line in our defensive short corners (you owe me? Han!).
