Aylesbury & Thame U14 girls had their first game of the season against Amersham and Chalfont this afternoon in glorious early autumn sunshine. Starting strongly, with the majority of play in the A&C half, the Aylesbury and Thame attacking line of Inge and Iona strongly supported by the midfield quartet of Alex, Rowan, Lucy and Hattie made good headway and had several chances to score. Aylesbury & Thame took the lead when quick thinking from Alex taking a free hit quickly released Rowan down the left side before a fantastic cross to the penalty spot allowed Inge to from close range. A&C were struggling to make much attacking progress, repeatedly crashing into the A&T back four of Jess, Evie, Phoebe and Prela and failing to trouble Becks in the A&T goal. Hattie, Erin, Olivia and Emilia seamlessly swapped in as substitutes across attack, midfield and defence allowing A&T to maintain a very high pace of play. In the second half A&C made a concerted push to get back in the game but again failed to convert their chances. Once Alex took out the entire A&C defence with an early free hit to Rowan on right enabling her to run towards the goal along the goal line before scoring from the tightest of angles to make it 2-0. A&T's 3rd goal again came from a quick free hit taken by Alex across the top of the D to find Inge on the right. A couple of quick touches took the defender out of play before she hit the ball at head-height towards goal. The A&C keeper got a touch but not enough to keep it out and that goal more or less finished things off. A great game, played in lovely warm sunshine with great energy and team spirit. Very well done to all of the girls.
